Walking through young corn fields

Hello there!
Wow, you liked Petworth then!?!?! Just to prolong the suspense, this next post is  about my afternoon in the countryside surrounding Petworth- it is mighty beautiful!

We left my friend pottering around the house and her husband putting more books away and headed out of the gate at the end of her garden to the chirruping of some birds nesting in the rhododendrons and walked straight into verdant foliage down the hill, reaching the river (which apparently, you can paddle in when it is not cold and rainy which it had turned to earlier), crossing by a small bridge.  Really sadly, we missed a natural Spring which you can drink at fairly near this point.

After getting a little lost, the path led to a field with some cows and a very very sticky, muddy exit where you either had to embrace the squelching or cowardly cling to the fence. I chose the latter, as did CBC.

The path led to some houses and then through a gate to climb up through a field until a mainroad where we found we had to walk through the most serene-looking corn-field.  The corn was still young so this was a pleasant experience and so utterly picturesque.  Despite not wearing a 'blogworthy outfit' (i.e. one that I wanted to take photos of), I couldn't resist and did a wee bit of posing as we walked.

But just feast your eyes on that.  It was glorious to walk through.

On and on we walked and then came to a path through Woodland which then sloped down to some rather big green fields wherein, I proceeded to sing most of 'The sound of Music' whilst spinning like I was Julie Andrews

As we looked homewards towards Petworth, we again realised what a privilege it was to be there and how lucky and blessed we were.

Looking across to home
A quick sojourn through the villlage and home to our friends.  We then shifted and sorted lots more boxes of books and ate a delicious roast chicken dinner and made plans to head over to Farncombe to the barge in the morning, hoping and praying for good weather and miraculous boating-skills!

More tomorrow...x
