Le Dordogne jaunt - a day in Sarlat

On our second day in France, we decided to drive to Sarlat, the nearest big town which was about 8km away.

After parking, we considered our priorities and went to buy an ice-cream.

Mmmm, they were delicious.  There was a lot of ice-cream in this town- I could have eaten more but I allowed myself one scoop of mint choc chip.
This picture below is WOMOTM's and you can see me biting my ice-cream determinedly!

The buildings were really historic from this lovely sandstone and there was lots of interesting architecture to look at.

The streets meandered around so you were surprised when you turned a corner.

We seperated into little groups and wandered around. I ended up in a shop buying some lemon verbena eau de toilette and a rock which your spray to give your bathroom a nice scent.

There was some sweet and interesting art work around the town, of which you will see more later.
This man was playing in the Street and I LOVED the instrument he was playing which was like a very gentle convex, instead of the usual concave steel pan.  He hit it with the fingers and the effect was very soothing and rather hippy!
Having come from Britain, we found the heat quite intense, so it was nice to try and find some shadow to stand in.

This little garden had some really effective animal sculptures.

Fairytale Coronet towers are something I noticed a lot of in this region.

 The cathedral.
 Darth Vader- the building!
I thought this mini art work of a letterbox was really convincing to make a boring letterbox more interesting!

We met for lunch in a cafe and this Chicken Caesar salad was very generous and perfect for the hot weather.
We only returned again to Sarlat on the last night for a meal where there was a busy nightmarket, teeming with tourists and a very heavy army presence.

Have you been here?

xx
